PRE-AP
Week 5: (4/29 & 5/1)
***Assignments should be submitted in Seesaw***
Visual Journal Assignment: 4/29-5/1 (Hope)
This week's assignment will be a sketch that should take you 30-45 minutes to do.
(Due: Friday 4/24 by midnight)
The past couple of weeks I’ve asked you to reflect on the new (temporary) normal, what had changed in your day-to-day life, and some guiding questions. You were to create a sketch based on the themes “Joy” and “Place.”
It was great to see the different interpretations, compositions, and materials used on the assignment. For those who are taking these assignments seriously, you will be rewarded later on your final. Remember, you need to work 30-40 minutes on these assignments. This week may be your last Visual Journal theme. These themes will always be open-ended to your interpretations.
Everyone has a different lens through which we experience events.
Most of you are feeling a wide range of emotions. I know this because you've expressed it in your writings and drawings submitted to me. Reality looks very different for each of us right now. I want you to try and express that reality through visual images as much as possible.
You can use any material you have available. I know most of you don't have your supplies from school with you. Do the best you can with what you have!
Your sketch doesn't have to be "pretty," but you should work on your:
1. Concept (How is this related to the theme?)
2. Composition (Why this arrangement? Is this interesting to the viewer?)
3. Craftsmanship (Am I using light/shadow and layering?)
Your theme is: Hope

Think of this while sketching:
- What does the term hope look like to you?
- Who/what gives you hope?
- Think of something in the past that you may have stressed out about. Was it worth stressing about? What gave you hope or comfort in that situation?
