Distorted Portraits
Objective
Students will be able to use an original reference photo of a portrait and distort the reference through experimentation and revision. Students will draw or paint from their distorted reference to create an original composition. Directions 1. Research how artists have distorted portraits. (Aldo Tolino is a good starting point.) 2. Choose a portrait photo to use. This must be a photo you have taken or a photo of you. 3. Distort your image. (This can be done in many ways and will be discussed in class). 4. Create thumbnail drawings to help you with your composition. 5. Choose which paper and material you would like to use. 6. Practice techniques using your chosen medium. 7. Create your drawing using a composition of at least 12" x 12". Your paper can be bigger to provide room for a border. *There are multiple ways of getting your reference onto your drawing surface. Explore which option best works for you! Requirements 1. Concept (Originality of idea) 2. Composition (Rule-of-Thirds, Foreshortening, different vantage point) 3. Craftsmanship (Light/Shadow, color mixing) 4. Process (Experimentation and practice) 5. Reflection (Grading Form) |
