Introduction to 2D Expectations/Syllabus
Below are the "non-negotiables" for this class to maintain a safe and productive learning environment. Please sign the slip your student has taken home to validate you have read these. The purpose of signing the slip to help create clear communication and gives you a chance to see where info on the class is found. Please contact me by email or write on the slip if you have any questions.
Description:
Intro to 2-D is a drawing class designed to explore various media such as graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, oil pastel, watercolor, etc. Projects will be focused on using the Elements of Art and Principle of Design. Students will experience cultural and appreciative aspects of art through various instructional resources and art production.
Electronic Devices:
Cell Phones, Music Devices, and Head Phones must be turned off and put away unless permission is given.
A warning will be given for failing to follow this expectation and Studio Professionalism Points will be taken away.
School policies will be enforced.
Life happens, if an emergency call needs to be made or taken, please communicate the situation with me before class.
Parents, do not call or text your student during class. This is a distraction and loss of cell phone privileges will occur. Please call the front office to contact your son/daughter while they are in class to help curb any issues. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
I cannot emphasize how much of a distraction cell phones have become in the classroom. They can also be a powerful learning tool. As a rule-of-thumb, cell phones should be turned off and put away unless permission is given.
Grading: Grading will consist of 3 parts.
Seesaw App:
Students will be documenting their work using the seesaw app. Students can download the app and use on their phones or they will be able to use an iPad in class. Parents can download the parent version of the app and see what their student is doing. I'll be sending you information through an email and possibly a handout. Please let me know if you have any questions about this.
Bell Work Quizzes:
There will be Bell Work on the board almost every day students some to class. This will consist of a short reading and notes on topics discussed in class. A Bell Work Quiz will be given every few weeks containing the information chronologically found in the Bell Work. Students are allowed to use their own notes on these quizzes. If students don't do their Bell Work, they may not do well on the quizzes.
Class Fee:
There is a class fee for the art class you are taking. This was stated in the course guide when filling out your schedule and during registration. Payments can be made in the office. All materials given to students throughout the course were paid for by the class fee. Loss or destruction of materials will result in additional replacement charges.
Tardies/Absences:
If you are absent for any reason, you are required to make up all work missed. It is your responsibility to find out what assignments and notes you missed. Unexcused absence equals zero points for assignments missed.
Per school/board policy: a tardy is defined by any student arriving after the start bell and before the dismissal bell.
a. At 4 tardies, a phone call home by the classroom teacher or confirmed “read receipt” notification email will be made and recorded in IC Contact Log.
b. At 5 tardies, a referral will be written and a warning conference held for student with administrator.
c. At 6 tardies, a detention will be given to the student and review of further next steps with parents.
d. At 7 tardies, all extracurricular activities will be suspended for the student until the end of semester. In addition, all students who are participating in extracurricular activities, to include athletics, clubs and activities will also be suspended from the next performance or game.
e. After 7 tardies, the student should be recommended to MTSS and administrative/counseling intervention will occur.
References:
These are pictures the students draw from. Any projects turned in copied from a copy written source will receive a zero. Please help provide a method for students to print their references at home or at the store. They will be given a minimum of a week's notice to do so. Personal photos are highly encouraged. Good websites to find sources will be discussed in class and are found on this website. A good example is www.pexels.com
Late work:
Late work is deemed as any worked turned in after class time on the date the work is due.
Work may not be accepted late if the student was unexcused during any part of the assignment.
Missing midterms or finals will be graded as “0” until the student makes up the exam.
Students with an excused absence are given two school days to make up work as per school policy.
A grace period of one week will be given to turn in any late work resulting in a score of no greater than 80%.
Academic Integrity:
If a student is suspected of turning in work that is not their own it will be reviewed by the administration and be scored as a “0” until the issue is investigated.
Food and Drinks:
Food and drinks are NOT permitted in class. Students may bring water to class but must have a closed lid and placed on the floor. Written/documented medical exceptions will be made.
After School Help:
I will stay after school by appointment for extra help, make-up work, missing work, etc. Students can also request a pass to see me during study hall if I'm available. I will also be able to help after school during our Art & Design Club.
