Coffee Still Life Painting

Coffee Painting Grading Rubric
Objective: 
Students will be able to create a painting demonstrating the use of depth, composition, and basic water media techniques.

Process:
  1. Look at examples.
  2. Practice Techniques. Play with the media.
  3. Choose your subject matter. (Person, Place, or Thing)
  4. Create thumbnails to demonstrate composition and depth. 
  5. Sketch the contours of your idea on 12"x18" paper.
  6. Practice using the coffee on this paper to achieve your values. Mix other media if you choose.
  7. Fill in the space using the values you see. Keep the white of the paper where the lightest values are.
  8. Critique your final product.

1.    Concept   
2.    Composition (Rule-of-Thirds, Depth (Size, Value, Position, Overlapping, Detail)
3.    Craftsmanship: Light & Shadow (White of the Paper/ Dark Values)
4.    Process
5.    Artist's Statement/ Reflection
