Carboard Project
Objective
Students will be able to create an original composition demonstrating depth and light/shadow using personal references. Students will communicate their ideas through the use of materials and composition. Focus will be on Contrast and Emphasis for the Principles of Design in this project. Requirements 1. Concept (Originality of References. Communication of idea. Use of Contrast and Emphasis.) 2. Craftsmanship (Light/Shadow, exploration of materials) 3. Composition (Use of space, rule-of-thirds, foreshortening, different point-of-view) 4. Process (Practice of materials) 5. Reflection (Fill out the grading form) Directions 1. Research ideas of what you would like to communicate. Look at the examples provided in the link below. 2. Find original references to work from. 3. Practice and experiment with materials on cardboard. 4. Create thumbnail drawings to help you plan how to execute your idea and implement contrast and emphasis. 5. Get cardboard. Use the entire sheet of cardboard. You can add to or subtract from the cardboard. (I have cardboard for you, but you can use your own if you would like. The piece needs to be around 16" x 20".) 6. Execute your design. Themes or Ideas You can choose one of these or select one of your own. - Portrait - Landscape/Cityscape - Surrealism - Technology vs. Nature - Still Life Reflection Answer the following questions in your reflection: What and how did you use Principle(s) of Design? Do you like your piece? Why or why not? What would you do differently if you had the choice? |
